Music in Review

In the not-so-distant past, I was fortunate to see Danny Schmidt perform live. (You can go to his website at that link, and coincidentally enough, he looks EXACTLY like that picture!). The entire time I was listening, my mouth was hanging open – his lyrics are THAT good. I didn’t look so good, but I don’t think anyone was paying any attention to me anyhow.
He also has a great sense of humor, which keeps you entertained between songs. Because personally, I would hate for those 3-5 seconds to go by without having anything to do.
So back to the lyrics. To be honest, if I’m in the car by myself, I turn on top 40 music really loud. I’m consistently drawn towards trashy music and trashy books, so I must not be as smart as I’d like to think I am. But when I listened to Danny’s lyrics, and they made me think and feel the way top 40 music just doesn’t, it made me a believer in NPR. Maybe they’ve got something going for them after all that I haven’t seen before? There is one song especially that will make you say “WOW” really loud: Stained Glass. Go read it if you have a moment.
I also loved his acoustic guitar playing – I could have listened all night. Thanks Danny for a great performance.
